HOW DOES DÖRREN WORK?
- The Dörren process starts by registering either as a Door Opener or as a Participant at Dörren.
- We match Participants and Door Openers with each other based on professional industry, profession, language and location.
- Once we have found you a match, we will email both of you to put you in contact with each other.
- You will, as Door Opener and Participant, meet for one hour to discuss your shared professional industry.
- After the meeting, the Door Opener can, if possible, suggest new contacts that the Participant could benefit from getting in touch with. These contacts, in turn, can open more doors for the Participant by further increasing his/her understanding of the industry in Finland and by expanding his/her professional network.
- You make the assessment yourself: Are you an established professional in Finland (Door Opener)? Or are you a foreign-born professional, who needs better knowledge of your professional industry in Finland and wants to expand your professional networks (Participant)?
- A Door Opener can also be foreign-born. In this case you can offer valuable experience and insights on how you have established yourself in your industry in Finland!
DOOR OPENER
- You get to meet someone with a similar professional background as you but with experience from another country.
- You get a broader perspective, new insights and contacts that may help you in your work.
- You help a foreign-born professional to get more established in the local job market.
- You discover more about the skills and experience that foreign-born professionals in Finland possess and how these could benefit organisations and economic development in Finland.
- You have professional working experience in Finland and feel professionally established - studies or a degree are not enough.
- You can give an hour of your time to meet with your matched person and share knowledge and experience from your professional industry in Finland.
- If you are able to, you can share new contacts with the Participant after your meeting - we all have more contacts than we think. These contacts, in turn, could open more doors for the Participant by increasing his/her network and understanding of the industry and hence improve his/her chances of achieving professional potentials.
- You are not expected to offer anyone a job.
PARTICIPANT
- You meet a person with experience in your professional industry in Finland
- You can expand your professional network by meeting your Door Opener and possibly receive additional contacts through your Dörren meeting.
- By expanding your network and meeting more people from your industry, you will increase your chances of finding a job that matches your skills and qualifications.
- You are born abroad.
- You are unemployed or employed in a job that does not meet your skills and qualifications.
- You are able to have a conversation in English, Finnish or Swedish. Alternatively the conversation can be in another language if we manage to find you a suitable match.
- Your Door Opener is not expected to offer you a job. The idea is that you gain more knowledge and potentially also more contacts in your professional industry and this way we hope that you will meet people who need your specific experience and skills.
- If you are unsure of what kind of support would be most useful to you, you can book a guidance at Luckan Integration. There you will receive guidance on issues such as job search, education, language courses, leisure activities and in finding the right services in Finland.
THE MEETING
When you agree on your Dörren meeting, remember to follow the current official recommendations for the COVID-19 situation. Discuss with each other where you want to meet and agree on a place that feels comfortable with both of you. If you decide to meet face-to-face, we suggest arranging the meeting in the Door Opener’s workplace or a public place such as a café. If you meet digitally, you could use Skype, Facetime, Hangout or other similar services.
- We match Participants and Door Openers with each other on the basis of professional industry, profession, language and location. We also aim to take your level of experience into account.
- Once we have found you a match, we will email both of you to put you in contact with each other.
- Email each other before the meeting and tell briefly about yourselves and why you joined Dörren.
- You can share your CVs or links to your LinkedIn profiles to get to know each other a little bit before the meeting.
- Familiarize yourself with our conversation guide before the meeting.
- If possible, the Door Opener can already think of two new contacts to share with the Participant after the meeting.
- You agree together on where and when you meet.
- We recommend that you have the meeting in a place that feels comfortable to both of you - such as the Door Opener's workplace or a public place like a cafe.
- Feel free to use our conversation guide during the meeting - here you will find suggestions for questions to discuss! You can, among other things, discuss the sector in general, professional roles or career opportunities that could be relevant for the Participant. Also discuss social codes that may be good to know.
- After the meeting, the Door Opener can, if possible, share two new contacts that could be useful to the Participant.
- Both Participants and Door Openers can always contact us at Dörren with questions and feedback.
- As a Door Opener, we have no restrictions on how many times you can register. Do you want to meet more Participants? Just register again at Dörren after the meeting to get matched again!
- As a Participant, you can currently register a maximum of 2 times. This is because we have more Participants than Door Openers and we want to give as many Participants as possible the opportunity of a Dörren meeting.
AFTER THE MEETING
- The Door Opener can, if possible, suggest new contacts that the Participant could benefit from getting in touch with. Here you will find a message template that you can use to connect your contacts and the Participant with each other. You can also ask your contacts on Facebook or LinkedIn.
- Should you not have contacts in your network that the Participant can benefit from meeting, you can contact us at Dörren and we will help.
- The Participant and the new contacts (Door Openers) decide on the time and place for their meeting, similarly to what you and the Participant did. This way new doors are opened and everyone's networks are growing.
If you want to meet after your scheduled one hour meeting, feel free to do so! If you want a framework for continued meetings, you may want to join our mentoring program FIKA.
